Keynote: Digitalisation of Energy Systems for the future

With the energy transition and the digital transformation we face a twin transition. This triggers the questions:

How can digitalisation enable and accelerate the energy transition?

What does decentralization mean from a digital perspective?

Peter Hermans will address a number of topics (including flexibility) of the Action plan on Digitalisation of the Energy System of the European Commission, to which he contributed in 2022.

He will also talk about emergence discussions on grid edge data, IoT edge computing and the next generation smart meter.

In the perspective of the next steps after FED, where project results need to be scaled up in order to become “the new business as usual”, he will address the need of a clear change management and transition strategy in which technology, market functioning and new energy legislation are strongly intertwined.

This discussion will be based on learnings from the Netherlands, mainly the principle that “the energy system of the future will not be build from the silos of the past.”
